| The Tomb of Xiangfei |
We went southwestward from Kuqa, passed Aksu and came to the westernmost
Chinese city--Kashi. One of the famous tourist attractions in Kashi
is the tomb of Xiangfei (Fragrant Concubine) 10 kilometers outside
the city. The tomb--an ancient Islamic fort built in the 17th century--is
very well preserved.
In fact, Xiangfei was not buried in the Tomb of Xiangfei, after her
death, she was buried in the Eastern Mausoleums of the Qing in Zunhua
County, hebei Province, east of Beijing. Recently, excavations at
the mausoleums have yielded handwritten Arabic words in gold on the
front and sides of Xiangfei's coffin. Some of the writings are still
decipherable: "In the name of Allah ......" |
